Boykin Spaniel

Appearance: Medium-sized flushing/retrieving dog. Larger than Cockers, more compact than Springers. Hallmark rich brown coat (liver to chocolate). Large, feathery ears hang close to cheeks; soulful, intelligent expression. Web-toed for swimming.

Traits & Characteristics: Avid, eager, merry, trainable. Mellow housedog, tenacious bird dog. Bred for lakes/swamps. Can swim like seals. Sweet family dogs, but 'absolute tigers' in the field.

Origins: South Carolina's best-kept secret, bred for waterfowl/turkey hunting.
