Appearance: Most ancient French breed. Brawny, fawn-coated guardian (males up to 27 inches, 110 lbs). Immensely powerful mastiff-type. Short coat is rich fawn. Massive head (proportionately largest in dogdom) features Bulldog-like undershot jaw, expressive eyes, deeply furrowed brow. Stocky, close-to-ground body. (Mastiff of Bordeaux).
Traits & Characteristics: Considerable courage, famously loyal, affectionate, protective. Sweet, sensitive souls of proper temperament. Can be stubborn; will dominate owners who fail to train early. Finding responsible breeder is key.
