Poodle

Appearance: True aristocrat (Standard variety >15 inches; Miniature <=15; Toy <=10). All sizes same build/proportions. Curly, low-allergen coat. Usually seen in elaborate Continental clip at shows; pet owners prefer simpler Sporting clip following squarely built, smoothly muscled body outline.

Traits & Characteristics: Elegant athlete, companion for all reasons/seasons. Forget notions: Poodles are eager, athletic, wickedly smart, remarkably versatile. Standard is best all-around athlete due to size/strength, but all Poodles trainable with great success. Proud, active, excellent family dogs; need exercise/mental stimulation.

Origins: Germany (developed further in France).
