Poodle

Appearance: Poodles are the aristocrats of the dog world, coming in three sizes (Standard, Miniature, and Toy). They are famous for their curly, hypoallergenic coats that can be styled into elaborate 'pompoms' or kept in a simple 'puppy cut.' Beneath the fancy hair is a lean, athletic, and surprisingly powerful dog built for speed and agility.

Traits & Characteristics: Frequently ranked as one of the smartest dog breeds, Poodles are highly trainable and excel in everything from agility trials to being professional couch companions. They have a playful sense of humor and are often described as 'almost human' in their expressions. They are also excellent swimmers, though they might not want to ruin their hair.

Origins: Germany (not France!), where they were originally bred as water retrievers for duck hunters.
